

Bike Course (Stages 1 & 2)

The 418.3 km (mile) bike segment is broken down into two stages. Stage 1 follows the swim and consists of a 144.8 km (90.0 mile) bike ride, beginning in Okanagan Falls over the Richter Pass returning to Okanagan Falls. Stage 2 consists of a challenging 273.5 km (170 mile) bike ride, beginning in Penticton and ending in Princeton.

1. No tandem, motorized or recumbent bike is allowed. Additionally, no device designed exclusively to reduce resistance is permitted on any bike.
2. A backup bike or spare frame may be carried in the support vehicle. Any spare bike must have passed the inspection process and carry an inspection sticker. You may only switch bikes once during the entire event. No switching back and forth is permitted.
3. No accompanying riders are permitted on the bike course.
4. Each competitor must have certain aspects of his/her bike inspected prior to the start of Stage 1. Any equipment unable to meet minimum standards may not be used until the problem is corrected. All repair costs are the responsibility of the rider.
5. During Stage 1 and Stage 2, drafting or pacing of any kind is not permitted.
6. Each competitor must conform to all traffic laws and is responsible for all consequences of any infraction.
7. Each competitor must wear an official number while on the bike course; it must be clearly visible and placed on the lower back of the rider.
8. Frame numbers (if provided) must be displayed in a highly visible position on the bike while the rider is on the course.
9. Each competitor must wear a properly fastened hardshell helmet that meets or exceeds ANSI or SNELL standards.
10. No competitor may wear any device which interferes with normal hearing (i.e. electronic headsets, radios).
11. The bike course Stage I will be CLOSED 12 hours after the start of Stage 1. Any athlete not reaching the finish by then will be declared a “Participant” and may be allowed to continue at his/her own risk. Athletes not reaching the finish line within 15 minutes of the close must abandon the course and be brought to the finish line by their crew. Any athlete not co-operating with this requirement will be disqualified and not allowed to continue.
12. The bike course Stage 2 will CLOSE 12 hours after the start. Any athlete not reaching the finish by then will be declared a “Participant” and may be allowed to continue at his/her own risk.
